The Standing Committee of Ethics (ETHCOM) invites ICOM members to a global webinar on the Revision of ICOM Code of Ethics on the 16th of September. The webinar will launch the next phase of the ICOM Code of Ethics revision, focusing on explaining the revision process and presenting the first draft of the revised Code. ICOM members will be invited to contribute their insights and feedback.
Based on a transparent and inclusive methodology of three consultations so far, ETHCOM is revising the Code of Ethics, under the principal goal of guiding museums and museum professionals to navigate the ethical challenges of the first part of 21st century. Developed in alignment with the new museum definition and grounded in the values shared by the international museum community, the revised code outlines five core principles that build upon the 2004 code. Each principle of the revised Code is articulated in principal statements that are further developed in more detailed descriptions, providing an accessible guidance to the museum sector worldwide.
The first draft of the revised Code of Ethics will be presented to the ICOM community during the global webinar on the 16th of September at 14:00 Paris time (CEST). ICOM members are encouraged to participate, gain a deeper understanding of the Code of Ethics revision, and, most importantly, explore how they can contribute to the next steps of the revision process by sharing their valuable feedback, which will help shape the final draft of the revised Code of Ethics for Museums.
Members are invited to participate in the global webinar through their respective committees. We encourage them to contact their National or International Committee, Regional Alliance, Working Group, or Affiliated Organisation to which they belong.
